Complexation and Extraction of PAHs to the Aqueous Phase with a Dinuclear Pt II Diazapyrenium‐Based Metallacycle

New palladium and platinum metallacycles have been synthesized by reaction between a 2,7-diazapyrenium-based ligand and Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes. The inclusion complexes between the metallacycles and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in CD(3)NO(2) and D(2)O were studied by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of the inclusion complexes of the Pt metallacycle as host with pyrene, phenanthrene, and triphenylene were confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The association constants between the Pt metallacycle and the selected PAHs were determined in CH(3)CN following the characteristic charge-transfer band displayed in their UV/Vis absorption spectrum. Oligophenylenevinylenes in Spatially Confined Nanochannels: Monitoring Intermolecular Interactions by UV/Vis and Raman Spectroscopy

Perhydrotriphenylene-based channel-forming inclusion compounds (ICs) and thin films made of polyphenylenevinylene (PPV)-type oligomers with terminal alkoxy groups are investigated and compared in a combined experimental and theoretical approach. Interchromophore interactions and host-guest interactions are elucidated by UV/Vis and Raman spectroscopy. The impact of the local environment of the chromophore on the optical and photophysical properties is discussed in light of quantum-chemical calculations. Nanoporosity, Inclusion Chemistry, and Spin Crossover in Orthogonally Interlocked Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Frameworks

[Fe(tvp)(2)(NCS)(2)] (1) (tvp=trans-(4,4-vinylenedipyridine)) consists of two independent perpendicular stacks of mutually interpenetrated two-dimensional grids. This uncommon supramolecular conformation defines square-sectional nanochannels (diagonal approximate to 2.2nm) in which inclusion molecules are located. The guest-loaded framework 1@guest displays complete thermal spin-crossover (SCO) behavior with the characteristic temperature T-1/2 dependent on the guest molecule, whereas the guest-free species 1 is paramagnetic whatever the temperature. Abstract The synthesis of tetramethoxyresorcinarene podands bearing p‐toluene arms connected by ‐SO3‐ (1) and ‐CH2O‐ (2) linkers is presented herein. In the solid state, the resorcinarene podand 1 forms an intramolecular self‐inclusion complex with the pendant p‐toluene group of a podand arm, whereas the resorcinarene podand 2 does not show self‐inclusion. En esta Tesis Doctoral se presenta la síntesis y caracterización de una serie de materiales multifuncionales de FeII que tienen como denominador común el fenómeno de transición de espín (TS).
